Tee It Up For Ta Ta's (Charity Golf Tournament)

Pink Diva Golf donated t-shirts and gifts for the 3rd annual “Tee It Up For Ta Ta’s” Charity Golf Tournament held on May 31, 2008 at the Raven Golf Club in Phoenix, AZ. The golf tournament supports the Breast Cancer 3 day for the Susan B. Komen Foundation. Congrats to Kathy A. one of the organizers of the event who is truly an amazing person who puts so much of her personal time to raising money for breast cancer research. They raised close to $30K for this golf tournament – great job ladies! Check out her my space page if you would like to donate or volunteer next year!

U.S. Open and were off!

I'm SO excited for the 2008 U.S. Open! I recently visited Torrey Pines in January right before the Buick Open what a course! So many open questions remain for this tournament.... How will Tiger play coming off knee surgery? Will Phil have home court advantage since he grew up in San Diego and has played this course more than most? And were off!

Lorena wins Sybase Classic

For the third year in a row Lorena wins the Sybase Classic with a one-under 71 giving her sixth victory this year! I thought Annika might pull off a victory at Sybase with first-round lead with 67 on Thursday but then she dropped to 11th place with her 73-71 finish. It’s still great to see Annika having a healthy year even though I’m disappointed to hear of her retirement. Morgan Pressel finish 2nd in a five way tie – only one shot from Lorena! Also, nice to see Christine Kim finishing in the top ten!

Okay let’s talk golf fashion for a minute – check out the shirt Lorena is wearing… yeah that red polka dot shirt from Lacoste. First of all I’m not a fan of polka dots, goes back to some mother-daughter event I attending in 6th grade and I wanted to find something cute to wear so I could hang with all the popular girls. I couldn’t find a spring dress I really liked and bought a navy and white polka dress. I thought I was pretty cool, but some comment from jealous rival sent my self-confidence down the tube and ever since I vowed to never wear polka dots in public again! Okay I digress, the shirt is sorta cute if your wearing with jeans, but I think it’s obnoxious on the course. And if you look at golf etiquette on those fancy courses they want a collared polo shirt….. lol. I can just picture some Lacoste Rep telling Lorena how cute the shirt looks on her… yeah no! Okay just my 2 cents – Lorena is the champ so she wears what she wants but this shirt should be found at Filene’s Basement with the other designer shirts gone wrong!

You have to check out the Lacoste website they have a cool flash site with the models floating in the air – it’s so cool: http://www.lacoste.com/usa/main.html

Pink Diva on GolfItUp Radio

Pink Diva Golf is on Golf It Up Radio with Jay and Tod on Saturday, May 17, 2008! You can find Golf It Up Radio at 95.9 WEFM, Michigan City, Indiana (but can be heard from the Chicago area also).

You can listen to the Pink Diva interview at:
http://www.golfitupradio.com/Shows/Current/5-14-08%20FINAL.mp3
(my interview is about 1/2 way through the show).

“Golf it Up! Radio” is a fast-paced one-hour golf themed variety show hosted by PGA Professional Jay Williams and veteran broadcaster Tod Allen. Each week listeners will enjoy hearing Jay and Tod talk about golf during segments such as The Practice Tee, where Jay will dispense tips on how to improve your game or; Tour Talk when Jay will analyze, discuss and give his opinion about what’s happening on all of the major professional golf tours; periodically Jay and Tod will go “Off the Course,” and address things outside the immediate realm of golf that are currently in the news. Listeners will take pleasure in the ongoing golf education of Tod (a non-golfer) as Jay attempts to increase Tod’s golf IQ through quizzes dealing with everything from golf jargon and rules to golf instruction. Regular contests for prizes will keep listeners tuned in each week as well.

Many thanks to Jay and Tod for having Pink Diva on the show!

Top Ten Reasons Annika Sorenstam Is Retiring

David Lettermen's Top Ten Reasons Annika Sorenstam Is Retiring...

10. Tired of Tiger Woods stealing my putter.
9. Became less interested in aiming at green and more interested in aiming at spectators.
8. I knew I needed a break when my golf bag began talking to me.
7. I'm leaving to play Countess Scarlett Worthington on All My Children.
6. When I'm in a stressful tournament, I eat golf tees like they're peanuts.
5. Honestly, this long presidential campaign has sucked the life out of me!
4. Who can focus on golf when Lauren and Audrina are fighting on The Hills?
3. I want to spend more time with Brett Favre's family.
2. I just want a job where I can sit in a cubicle instead of being stuck on a golf course all day.
1. The only putts I have to worry about now is my fiancé!

Trevor, Tiger, Lorena - oh my!

I doubt the average golfer was very familiar with Trevor Immelman before his amazing win at the 2008 Master’s Tournament on Sunday at Augusta, GA. Trevor led from the first round to the last, posting an impressive 8-under-par 280 to finish three strokes ahead of Tiger (with 25 mph winds on the final round!). I say impressive because of the intense pressure of winning the Masters not to mention you got a tiger on your tail and that brutal wind.

Now Trevor will be will be launched into the golf stratosphere! (More about his appearance on Letterman in a future blog).

Listening to the announcers and reading all the golf blogs seems like everyone kept waiting for Trevor to choke on the last day so Tiger could win another major. Give me a break! Attention golfers: Tiger is human! Don’t get me wrong I like Tiger and I enjoy watching him play, but I love the fact that an underdog player won the Masters. And let’s face it ladies, Trevor is easy on the eyes! Congats Trevor! Now take that green jacket back to South Africa and celebrate with your family!

On the same day of the Master’s there was another golf tournament going on…. The 2008 LPGA Corona Championship held in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. Lorena Ochoa spanked her competitors with 25-under-par (66-66-66-69=267) and claimed her 21st career title and fulfill the points requirement for the LPGA Hall of Fame. South Korea's Song-Hee Kim (72) was second at 14 under. Lorena ROCKS!

USGA – are you a member?

Did you know you can join the United States Golf Association (USGA) for only $15 per year? The USGA has served as the national governing body of golf for the U.S. since its formation in 1894. It's a non-profit organization run by golfers for the benefit of golfers.

As a rookie golfer I just realized I was really missing out since I wasn’t a member of the USGA. Here’s some of the benefits for an individual membership:

• Latest edition of the "The Rules of Golf"
• USGA Championship Annual and U.S. Open Program publications
• Personalized USGA bag tag, Member ID and Member Handbook Preference
• An annual subscription to Inside the USGA
• Special Member Discounts on merchandise
• Exclusive Members-only U.S. Open Hat
• Volunteer opportunities at USGA Championships
• Discount car rental pricing at Hertz.

As a member you receive a discount on any merchandise purchases on the USGA website. How cool is that? In January I visited the Torrey Pines Golf Course (home of the 2008 US Open) and they were selling US Open merchandise and some of the same merchandise is on the USGA site at a very reasonable price. Geez cheaper than I spent at the Torrey Pines Golf Shop! If you’re a rookie golfer like me, or been golfing for years please join the USGA! You will be helping support the game of game! FORE!
